Playboi Carti is a rapper from Atlanta Georgia. Using his ties to Asap Mob, it seemed like he began rapping when he got famous. His music was barely lyrical. However, his lack of experience gave him an originality that led to his own style. Playboi Carti is a character and a brand first and a musician second. His confidence is mind-blowing but refreshing. This album sounds like he's been practicing and focusing on quality. The breakdowns have a growl that is more universal than screaming but just as lit. The collaborations he pulled off and production value make it seem like Carti is going to be very prominent on hip hop's forefront this year. Good job Carti.
Jack Harlow is a rapper from Louisville, Kentucky. After dropping "What's Poppin" and "Way Out", he seemed like he was on the way to being one of the best rappers in 2020. This album is nice, but it's relationship centric. That's not his comfort zone. It's a lot of getting dissed and crooning wasn't in his image with his singles. It would be like if the first single from Take Care was "Started From The Bottom". Jack Harlow is extremely talented. He is connected to hip hop culture and earned his stripes legitimately. He is a fantastic rapper, but none of the songs on his album are at the level of his singles. He isn't as smooth as Drake. This album is decent, but I think we can expect big things from his sophomore album.

Kodak Black is a rapper from Pompano Beach Florida. He is extremely humble compared to other rappers at his level. His slur is reminiscent of other southern rappers but his flow is extremely trill like an Asap Mob Member. This album really doesn't have much of a message so the colorful persona of Kodak is the conceptual selling point of the entire album. There are some girl focused bars, but for the most part he's just giving a play by play of his newly rich lifestyle.

Rico Nasty is a rapper from Margo, Maryland. Her production is a mix between Lil Uzi Vert and Takashi 6ix 9ine in tempo and structure. She is a very good rapper but she isn't revolutionary. This album was constructed to be performed which is a first for a female rapper. There's so many rock breakdown hype songs that you feel like you're at the concert while listening to it. What's missing is a song strong enough to be memorable. She's good enough to be trending, but time will tell if she has long term appeal.
