The "Tha Carter IV", and initial "Tha Carter V" were a bit of a let down. Tha Carter V deluxe really should have been called Tha Carter 6 because it's a completely different album. The Carter V opened with a XXXTentacion tribute and a lot of straight forward generic bars. The deluxe edition is consistent. He has a lot of really strong bars/ideas. Every song is fantastic. A couple Drake hooks/good hooks, would have made these songs perfect, but Lil Wayne did a great job. He may be little on the outside but in some of these songs, he sounds taller than any rapper in the past 5 years. These songs are above the collective quality of most hip hop tracks in its lane. He sounds like the confident younger weezy F that people raved about with "Tha Carter 3".

8.5/10

Overview
Lil Wayne is a rapper from Hollygrove, New Orleans. Tha Carter 3 was by far his most successful album and sent him into the stratosphere of mainstream hip hop. Lil Wayne pioneered using comedy and metaphors. Tha Carter 3 wasn't very polished and some felt it was making a mockery of hood culture. However Tha Carter 4 was less interesting because he was more serious and polished. Tha Carter 5 is somewhere in between serious talent and fun word play. Some of the biggest brands in music like Lil Wayne are getting rebranded in the changing internet landscape. This album was produced very well culturally. It features collabs with all of the highest profile indie rappers in the game.
Defining Track
Don't Cry is the starting track and features XXXTentacion. It's extremely good. It's so good that the rest of the album is a little underwhelming compared to it, but it just set the bar really high.
Final Thoughts
Lil Wayne has a stream of consciousness style that hides his punchlines a bit. Taking a break to laugh at some of his own jokes like he did in Tha Carter 3 would have been nice on occasion. This album has very little comedy and that's his strongest niche. All of his most memorable moments are comedic. The production on the Cater 3 was epic and motion picture sounding. These instrumentals are better than 4 but not better than 3. Lil Wayne is going to expose a new generation to real hip hop, and RapIndie is just glad to help him do it.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter V

Overview
Lil Wayne is a rapper from New Orleans and unlike most artists that make weed-pop, he nearly built his entire image around the use of green herbs. From breaking away from the Hot Boyz, to experimenting with skating, Lil Wayne has covered a lot of ground. Tha Carter 3 is an album that has the production of a movie soundtrack. On top of that, it was the proving ground for rap analogies, metaphors, and comedy.
Defining Track
Lollipop was the first single from the album and his personality was the focal point of the entire song. The crude and outlandish presentation camouflaged the fact that he was partially singing while at the same time representing thug culture.
Final Thoughts
Lil Wayne has always coasted on personality more so than technical skill. Tha Carter 3 put comedic word play on the map and there are a lot artist who imitate that to this day.
