Hip hop has a wide range of audiences. While most people seem to feel like a certain era or age group is at an advantage, we believe they are actually pretty evenly matched.
Younger rappers of 2023 are more well received by audiences, but they really don't tend to be more talented. Singing, metaphors, assonance, writing their own music... Better is an opinion, but the need to speak to a very poorly educated generation has watered down lyricism to a very easy formula.
Non-stop criticism has made people harsher than ever while the desire for a less-critical world has ironically propelled mediocre music.
When you hear someone talk about this music, they have a much different message then previous generations. In some ways it's a new focus on meaning. In other ways, it's about ethics and survival.
2023 has quieted opinions so thoroughly in statistics and data that no one really knows what is actually hitting the mark; or why.
