Lowering the opposite bar

Hip hop has gone through many phases since the creation of RapIndie. It's probably just the personification of the cultural structure. RapIndie (Rap Independent) is a combination of hip hop culture and indie rock culture, therefore the platform was created for innovative, blog-focused music. When those kinds of artist became harder and harder to find, there were blog/hood-hybrid artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti to supplement the roster. We branded them as indie rappers in order to keep the site current. The problem was most rappers became discouraged and adopted the same hip hop cultural norms that RapIndie was created to offset. What's the point? I don't know what to use the platform for in 2020. Maybe we got acceptance wrong. Maybe rappers pushing the boundaries of intelligence and wealth is unnecessary, maybe what we need is rappers pushing the boundaries of mediocrity.
